                                                   Fast Food Nation

Growing up my mother was strict about what we ate. There were times she took us out even though it was to spend quality time with us. My mother would take us out once a week to either Taco bell or Carl’s Jr. I remember always wanting to go to Mcdonalds but my siblings were teenagers and thought Mcdonalds was too childish. I remember eating a Mexican pizza at Taco bell with a Dr. Pepper as my drink. As we got older my siblings were always gone so my mother would decide to cook instead. It was rare when my mom gave me fast food. My mother would always cook Mexican food like enchiladas, tamales and panbasos. My favorite thing to eat where the panbasos because it had carrots, potatoes, lettuce, cheese and sour cream inside a piece of bread. Our treats would usually be celery with peanut butter, grapes, strawberries, or cut up mango. My mother made sure to always give us something different for a snack but it was always healthy. Even though fast food is bad for you, at the time I was eating the Taco bell I always wanted to eat it. I loved those Mexican pizzas. Growing up was a different story. My friends and I would always eat at fast food places. The worst part about it was that it would be to late to be eating that junk. Of course, what 18 year old thinks about what they eat?
I now buy fast food only when we are far from home. There are days we go out to Santa Monica and of course were there for hours so we just pick something up. Usually I eat Mcdonalds because my kids always ask for happy meals. I, myself  rather cook because not only is fast food bad for you to be eating regularly but it can get expensive. My older brother eats fast food everyday and I asked him how much he spends a week and he said sixty to seventy dollars and that’s just on fast food. I cannot imagine spending that much money on fast food a week. Since I had my kids, I take my health a lot more serious. Just the way my mother always gave us healthy snacks I do the same for my kids. I watch what I eat and avoid eating fast food as much possible. There are times I crave it so I will buy something small from time to time. My family on the other hand, eats  more fast food than I do. My sister lives off fast food. She said the kitchen was not meant for her. She will either buy canned or frozen foods and prepare it, or buy fast food. I believe many people have a hard time learning how to cook but it is important to learn because u do not want to rely on junk food. It can’t be that hard to learn how to make a salad. I want my kids to grow up knowing the importance of eating healthy.

  1. I like the fact that your are trying to stay healthy for you and your family. Your mother seemed like a wise woman when it came to your health. It seems you are doing the same for your kids, which is a very good thing.
